  • Overview

    General Summary:

    Responsible for design and development of mechanical systems and components.


    This position is in San Jose, California and is regular full-time.


    Essential Functions:

    • Design or specify components for use in prototype and commercial medical devices.
    • Create design documentation in the form of mechanical drawings, specs, schematics, and process instructions.
    • Manage external vendors in the fabrication of components and assemblies
    • Perform component and system testing, including:
      • Materials (tensile, fatigue, burst strength)
      • Fluid handling systems (pumps, valves, air separation devices, sensors)
      • Mechanisms and assemblies (lifetime/durability)
      • Thermal systems (heat exchangers, refrigeration systems)
    • Document testing in the form of test procedures, reports, and lab notebook studies
    • Write verification test protocols and reports
    • Troubleshoot and analyze product failures
    • Work with manufacturing engineers to develop assembly and work instructions
    • Work with the electrical and software engineers to develop product requirements
    • Participate in product design reviews, failure analysis, brainstorming, and other project team activities.



    Skill Requirements:

    • Customer-oriented, curiosity-driven, hands-on, self-starter
    • Well organized
    • Strong failure analysis / troubleshooting skills
    • Able to design and conduct experiments, analyze data sets and draw conclusions
    • Thorough understanding of engineering fundamentals
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Hands-on experience using machine shop tools
    • Hands-on experience with measurement systems, electronics and/or laboratory equipment
    • 3D CAD (SolidWorks)
    • 2 years related experience
    • BS required (MS preferred) in mechanical engineering or related field
